[Big Game.]

Chasses de la Compagnie Générale Transsaharienne en Afrique Occidentale Française.
Paris, n.d. c. 1930s.

A group of 30 postcard-sized images, each captioned “Compagnie Générale Transsaharienne : Chasses en Afrique Occidentale Française”, many attributed to M. Hettier de Boislambert but one also to MM. Susset et Andieux, postally unused and in fine condition, contained in the original card envelope, which is a little worn.

These evocative images of big game hunting in West Africa show camp scenes as well as many trophies such as elephant, lion, antelope, hippo, birds, warthog, and other West African game. The original photographer for many of the images, Claude Hettier de Boislambert, was a notable hunter. The Compagnie Générale Transsaharienne was France’s first aviation company, founded in 1909. It may have issued these images of big game hunting in West Africa to advertise its services to the region.
